Our last two days with Y & V

So, Brian posted earlier tonight that both Y & V said they did not want to be adopted. We anticipated this from the beginning, but were hoping that maybe if they spent some with with us that they might be interested ... guess we were wrong. It's hard to accept that these children need a good home, but are too young/immature to understand that they need this and where they live is not a good "home" nor a family. The living conditions are considered sub standard by American standards, but since they've never been, I guess they wouldn't know that. Even in the little girl's restrooms there are not seats on the toilets ... the kitchen area has several brick size holes in the floor that are the perfect size to get a small foot caught in it and do some serious damage. Ok, so enough lamenting ...

Anyway ... here's a few photos from Dec 26th & 27th of our time with Y & V.

V being a lil' poser

Y playing the piano, but not really

V brushing Y's hair with the doll's hairbrush

V playing with Potato Heads
(not a known toy in Ukraine -
we thought she'd be more interested, but she didn't seem to like them very much)

V playing with Belle doll
(she got bored pretty quickly with just about everything we brought)

Another pose by the tree

Playing with sock puppets
(this was a total flop, and the only 5 mins she played with them)

Posing again!

Playing "airplane" on Brian's feet

Y "not" playing the piano
V playing with Y's rocket toys

  1. i don't know if all orphanages look alike, but that room you are in with the orange carpet looks so much like the "performance" room where our girls lived in Makeevka.

  2. This is in a performance room for the really little kids 6 and under.

  3. I'm surprised that they considered them old enough to make their own choice, as if they are mature enough to make a good choice. They don't even know what a 'real' family looks like:(

  4. We were surprised they asked too. The inspector said there was an old law but now they ask everyone over 2.

  5. I know this is an old post, but when we adopted Alex (he was 2.5) and they did not ask him if he wanted to be adopted. It was only up to us. I wonder if this is a regional thing?
