Our time with the kids went well, but Snezhana still said she is not sure if she wants to come live in America "forever." The translator helped explain that when she turns 18 she will be an adult and came make her own decision if she wants to return to Ukraine at that point, she can. But, the point being that she can have a better like in America and also she knows that it will be a much better life for Denis. She has expressed that she knows Denis has no chance for a good life in Ukraine.
I will explain more of the details about our visit later, after I get some sleep, but for now, please keep praying. We have a very nice family in the states that will be having their daughter, who was adopted from this same place only this past July, call Snezhana tomorrow. So, please pray that conversation goes well and that Snezhana will be ready to make her decision.

There were several other boys in the room where Dennis and I were playing ball off/on. We had a good time with them joining in and the kids seem to eat up something as simple as just tossing the ball back and forth with an adult that included them. I had fun too. I'd really love to see more of these kids find homes.
ReplyDeleteOh no, we missed out the Ukrainian Texas Style Steak place! lol Oh well, maybe next trip. Dennis and I are native Texans, but he claims Stakhanov as his home town;)
ReplyDeleteJune
June - the steakhouse menu was hillarious! So many things were lost in translation and they clearly didn't have anyone who knows English very well translate the menu. Words were spelled wrong, like style was spelled stile and other phrases were used that would never be used on a menu ... like neck of pig to describe which part of the animal the cut of meat was from and meatballs was used to describe a steak and the picture showed a steak, not meatballs! We got a good kick out of the menu, that's for sure! We asked the waitress which was the thickets steak, to be sure to get a good one and ordered it medium rare, it came medium but was still good. I ordered a combo platter, which had chicken, lamb, pork chop and steak - it was all good but too much food. I brought back my leftovers and dumped them in the park for the stray dogs - poor things.
ReplyDeleteOne of those memorable places for sure!:)
ReplyDeleteReminds me of one time we ate at Double Coffee in the underground mall. What's with the name anyway? Dennis ordered a cheeseburger. What he got was a bun with a round, breaded piece of .... get ready.... cheese - with horseradish sauce. Talk about lost in translation or was this 'literal' translation?! LOL He was so disappointed.
June
Of course, June! Why would there be meat on a cheeseburger??? :)
